The Svartavatn dam. Sauda, Norway

The dam is overflowing and creating some nice "lines"..

HDR from 3 exposures..

Enjoy!

Asbjørn. :)

Seriously superior composition and shutter selection. This image deserves to be truly seen in all it's glory.

I would take out the vignette all together......

I would selectively increase exposure (dodge) the green grass/moss areas of the hillside.... increase contrast between the sky elements (Dark clouds vs lighter areas), reduce saturation on water fall areas making those areas more white vice off white...

I would then finally dodge the hill reflection in the water to bring out the detils and bring out some of that green in the water reflection...

then do some clarify (Unsharp Mask) or other sharpening tool to finale....

Listen, this is a winning image.... sounds like a lot here but it is not...... this deserves some extra care!

A truly wonderful image....

Regards,
Kelly

Welcome :) I've been processing HDR photos for a while, and sometimes I still find it hard to get the right balance of tones without exaggerating the effect too much, but it looks very natural here.

What program are you using for HDR processing?

For the longest time I used Photomatix, but in the last year or so I've been using HDR Express whenever possible. Not quite as many controls and it doesn't handle ghosting issues as well, but I find it's a lot more intuitive and saves a lot of time on processing.

I'm using Dynamic Photo-HDR [link] , earlier I used photomatrix.

But for me DP-HDR creates a more natural result..
The tonemap setting is called "eye-catcing".. Usually adjust it too much then I dial back the settings to a much more natural result..

Looks promising, thanks for the reference :) I'm a little concerned though about its Mac "virtualized" version. I've never heard of software virtualized for Mac, do you know if it still runs normally?

I've never used a mac so I can't answer that I'm afraid.. but I know that you can install a virtual version of the whole windows operating system inside the mac operating system.. that might perhaps work if you have an old version of windows laying around..

Really nice shot! Did you combine 3 different exposures to get this image? I am just starting out taking these types of photos. Any tip on taking these types of shots? Below is a link to one of my photos.

Any ideas on how to make it better?

Thank you so much for your input.. :):)

The actual dam is the "bridge" you see on the left side, and the overflow part of the dam is a pretty cool design.. :)

The sky gets too overexposed when I do these long exosures + I think get more detail doing it with HDR.. :)

I love vignetting I personally think it adds depth to the images.. :)

And I really like my images a bit dark..
